Psychic Derek Acorah

Top TV psychic Derek Acorah talks to GMTV about his recent foray into the world of ghosts – have you had any spooky experiences?

Derek is best known for his television series Ghost Towns, where he travels the length of Britain in his Ghost Truck with his paranormal investigators searching for haunting stories.

In each episode, the team investigates four mysteries in a haunted town, which involves painstaking night vigils, midnight séances and contact with people who have passed into the spirit world.

Derek’s introduction to the spirit world came at an early age when his grandmother foresaw the biggest tragedy in his life.

When he was 17-years-old he was signed by Liverpool football club.

However, his gran had warned him as a young boy that injury would end his career. Alas that was exactly what happened - he was just 26.

“I wasn’t even at the prime of my footballing career. Football was all I ever wanted to do,” said Derek.

“Then I injured my knee. It was one of the lowest points of my life. But I remembered my gran had told me, years earlier that I would play football, have a serious injury and be forced to retire.

“She was a medium, like many other members of our family. So I knew then that it was meant to be.”

A gift?

Derek has since carved out a hugely successful career communicating with ‘the other side’.

He claims he has been talking to ghosts for 27 years, insisting that it’s a gift he always had.

“When I was younger I just didn’t want to know about it. All I ever wanted to be was a footballer and even though I had this gift I ignored it,” he added.

After travelling around Britain in search of spooky takes, Derek admitted that not everyone shared his open mind.

He said: “We encounter sceptics, who generally turn out to be the people most keen to invite us in.

“One guy, an architect, said we were charlatans who couldn’t prove anything. At the end of the reading, he was gobsmacked. How could I have known all the information that I had given him about his parents?”
